Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get my CPD points?
At the end of the Assessment the computer will inform you whether or not you have achieved a pass grade. If you are successful you will be given a code numbered certificate.
How should I register my CPD points?
To record your CPD points, the Royal College of Physicians asks that you write the certificate code number together with the Activity Code number (found on the wrapping of the disk) in your personal record. You should also record both numbers in your RCP online CPD diary. www.rcplondon.ac.uk/members/CPDdiary/index.asp
I have lost the packaging. What is the Activity Code number for my program?
Bladder Problems in Adults - Activity Code 17938
Falls and Bone Health - Activity Code 17465
Depression and Dementia in Older People - Activity Code 22850
I
can't register CPD points for my program. Why?
CPD accreditation by the RCP is permitted
for a limited period of time. "Off His Legs", "Bladder
Problems in Adults" and "Falls and Bone Health"
have been accredited by the RCP but are currently "out of
time". They are still excellent programs and useful for training
purposes, but at the moment CPD points are not available from
the RCP.
I'm not a doctor. What use is the CPD system to me?
Inclusion in the CPD scheme of the Royal College of Physicians guarantees that our training courses reach the highest standards. They have been fully evaluated by the RCP and judged suitable for the professional development of doctors in the UK. However they can be used by other health professionals. The code number that you receive on successful completion of the Assessment is proof that you have achieved a high level of understanding in the subject.
All professional healthcare colleges and associations require their members to commit to lifeling education by participating in a continuing professional development (CPD) scheme.
If you are a general practitioner, a specialist nurse, therapist or a student, you can arrange with your tutor to use our programs as part of an agreed course of study. The code number is your proof of completion.
These programs are really useful and I would like to develop something similar in my own speciality. How should I go about it?
Funding to develop the program to the high standard required is the main problem. Links to a suitable IT company or the IT department of a University would be useful. It takes up to 2 years to develop a lengthy comprehensive program to professional standards. Start with something small. Start on paper.
I'm not a doctor but I need to know about Depression and Dementia in some detail, because a member of my family is ill. Will this program help me to understand?
Yes. It will give you insight into the condition and a clear idea of the sort of program of care that should be available. Falls and Bone Health and Bladder Problems in Adults are also suitable for lay people who want to know more about these problems. |
