Bladder Problems in Adults CD

Delivers the training needed to implement the NICE guideline on urinary incontinence.

Approved by the Royal College of Physician (London). Also approved for use by GPs within a personal development plan and has academic approval from the University of Derby. This important teaching program meets the high standard required for postgraduate medical education but it has been carefully designed so that it is relevant and useful to the entire multi-disciplinary team. We’ve had a particularly enthusiastic response from continence nurse specialists so we feel we can honestly recommend it for the use of the entire team.

The program meets the training needs for developing an integrated continence services as required by the National Service Framework for Older People (England) and NICE clinical guideline no.40 - Management of urinary incontinence in women. The implementation advice for this guideline states that ‘Healthcare professionals may need training in order to implement the recommendations, including the key priorities for implementation. For example, NICE recommends supervised pelvic floor muscle training and bladder training as first-line treatments for women with urinary incontinence. Organisations should consider the training needs for this and think about who has the skills and expertise to offer training (for example, continence physiotherapists and continence nurse specialists).’

The program teaches you how to distinguish between and manage stress incontinence (urethral sphincter weakness), overactive bladder (detrusor instability), urinary tract infections (UTI), voiding difficulties, neuropathic bladder and hypersensitivity. In addition there are sections on female urology, prostate problems, bladder cancer and institutional care.

Successful completion of the demanding Assessment ensures thorough understanding of the material and provides objective evidence for the trainee’s records. When you have achieved a pass score (you can attempt it several times) the computer will issue you with a certificate and a validation code number for your CPD or personal study record.
