Depression & Dementia
Delivers the training needed for the National Dementia Strategy (2009) and implementing NICE guidelines.
Approved by both the Royal College of Physicians (London) for 8 CPD credits and by the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Also approved for use by GPs within a personal development plan and has academic approval from the University of Derby.
The National Dementia Strategy and the NICE guideline on managing depression in primary and secondary care recognise that mental illness in older adults is under-diagnosed and often inappropriately treated. Better professional education is needed to turn this situation around. Improved skills will bring benefits to both patients and their carers.
This important teaching program meets the high standard required for postgraduate medical education but it has been carefully designed so that it is relevant and useful to the entire multi-disciplinary team. Ten case histories offer the opportunity to test diagnostic skills and to respond to common management problems. The emphasis throughout is on early and accurate diagnosis and a co-ordinated approach between primary and secondary care to assessment and management. Interviews with patients, carers and a psychologist are included as well as extensive references. On completion of the course, an Assessment ensures that the work has been completed and the teaching material thoroughly understood. The computer will issue you with a certificate and a validation code number for your CPD or personal study record.
Our Learning Management System
If you don’t already have one, a Learning Management System (LMS) is provided with this program free of charge. Your own Training Manager or librarian can use the LMS to monitor the compliance of trainees using the program. Usernames and passwords are issued by the training manager who can assess each trainee’s performance at the end of the program. Code numbers are issued on successful completion of the course and records can be printed by the trainee and used to demonstrate compliance with your institution’s training requirements.
